To maintain the harmony of the house, the mother has always been the mediator.
Harmony or balance is the key word - the harmony between nations; between states within each nation; between cities within each state; between societies within each city; between families within each society; between individuals within each family; and finally within every individual - in the absence of this harmony, society will disintegrate and so will the individual. In its presence, peace and happiness will reign; creativity will abound; and the body (whether of the society or the individual) will flourish.
Time flows in its own pace converting the present to past and future to present. Every day we wake up in the lap of a new world. Every day we see a giant leap in the scientific field. When forests were replaced by concrete jungles; when waters were concentrated by chemical wastes; when fumes of industrial pollution pierced the ozone layer, we were drowned in the euphoria of achievements.
We do not understand that the more we attempt to conquer mother nature, the more we disturb the balance in the universe - the greater the medical discoveries, more serious are the diseases that crop up; the greater the scientific inventions, the bigger are the problems that are posed to us like famines, earthquakes, typhoons, floods, volcanic eruptions, etc., which all lead us to wonder whether the so called development, automation and mechanization are not the biggest threats to the healthy and peaceful existence of mankind
The knowledge of life and longevity or Ayurveda as it is popularly known is not a mere healing system - as its meaning goes. It is the knowledge of life. It is not a mere elaboration of diseases and cures; it is a lucid description of how to lead one's life in tune with nature to enable one's elevation into higher realms of happiness. It is philosophy at its best, which gives a step by step description of how to achieve the ultimate. In this process, it describes how to take care of the body and mind and how to keep it free from disease for if external joy is the aim, then the happiness of the body and mind is the first step.
Now let us take Ayurveda as a medical Knowledge system. The scientists of today consider Ayurveda or for that matter, any indigenous medical knowledge system to be an empirical system - which is not true. Ayurveda is a codified and organized systematic body of knowledge, which is built on very strong foundational principles - these are in fact the principles of nature.

| Ayurveda, India's holistic, integrated, physiotherapeutic medical system is based upon the universal natural law of balancing the five elements (ether, air, fire, water and earth) that make up the physical body. When one or more of these elements go out of balance because of improper diet and life style, various diseases and mental disturbances can manifest. Ayurveda explains that these five elements are kept intact in the body by three subtle forces called doshas. The key to maintaining physical and mental health is in keeping these elements and doshas in harmonic balance through proper diet, herbs and life style |
